Use of Oppositions to Create a Breathing Posture

Creating a breathing posturing leads to higher quality of:
  • Stability of your own mobile balance
  • Balance in the movement
  • Body rhythm
  • Body flight
  • Swing and Sway
  • The ability to infiltrate the music into the body
  • The ability to sense the outside space and the partner

The tool to create a breathing posture is the use of “oppositions”

The use of the opposition is creating inner space for the freedom of Qi energy and Li power to fulfill all the body effortlessly.
The bigger the opposition of polarities (“ji”), the more space there is for energy flow (“qi”).
The “ultimate” oppositions is called “tai ji”.
Releasing and extending different body parts to create a breathing pattern of oppositions is called “body rhythm”.
Polarities also arise when we have:
  • different directions/oppositions of inner activities
  • different time values of inner activities
  • different actions of two people

Acceleration Points

An acceleration point is a small wheel turning/accelerating
  1. To create an inner opposition
  2. To create elasticity of the inner space and its volume
  3. To create the chosen speed of energy in the inner space of the total body
  4. To create different dynamics of movement in the outside space

The fulfillment of the use of opposition and acceleration points are creating fulfilment between releasing and extension to open your inner voice for expression.
Therefore, we never try to stretch a body in vertical direction, but activate oppositions to create distances in horizontal and diagonal directions.

Creation of Twist between the Oppositions

The twists of different oppositions in the body are creating
  • deeper fulfillment of motion in the inner space
  • the time value of the use of the body rhythm
  • deeper fulfillment of body flight.
There are six areas of twists in the body: the feet, the legs, the pelvis, four different areas in the spine, the arms and hands.

The Emotion of the Waves

Through release, extension, oppositions and acceleration points, energy flows are created inside the body.
Emotionally, these flows feels like waves going through the body.
The emotions of these waves are constantly in motion.
You may feel strong, light, free and ready to express yourself.

Constructions of the Internal Oppositions (fulfilling the Wave Feelings)

We can divide the emotion of the “wavy body” into different areas.
At first, all the gravities release from the impulse point down into the ankle for their weight to merge together through the ankle into the floor (like water flowing from the ankle into the floor through a funnel).

Oppositions in the Base (to create the feeling of wave 1)

To create the feeling of the first wave, we activate the oppositions between:
  • the “Impulse” of the 8th rib going downwards to the root of the foot as well as into the floor
  • the extension from under the floor to the heel to the ankle and the front of the foot
  • the extension from the ankle up to the sit bone and the outer corner of the pubic bone
  • the extension up from the sit bone as well as diagonally up and back from the pubic bone to the gravity of the spine.
The purpose of these oppositions is to establish a breathing space in the base of the body
  • to serve as a stable foundation for the continuation of the wave feelings
  • to be able to fulfill the rhythm of the music

Oppositions of the Chest (to create the feeling of wave 2)

  • The first opposition of the chest starts with the impulse from the shoulder “wellness centre” into the sit bone meeting the extension of Li power from the base — to open the chest side-ways so that the solar plexus can start to open up.
  • The second opposition starts under the tip of the shoulder blade (next to T7), going diagonally up from the acceleration point to the top of the chest bone (the “diamond bone”).
At the same time, the shoulder “wellness centre” continues to release in order to have a constant flow between the oppositions and opening up the solar plexus totally.
The purpose of the oppositions between the base and the chest is to design the movement through releasing, forming, rotating and creating directions into space.

Oppositions of Chest, Head and a Total Arm (to create the feeling of wave 3)

  • The opposition is activating the tongue bone (hyoid bone) diagonally down and back towards the upper area on the inside of the shoulder blade — to “lilt” the atlas to be free for rotation and swaying.
At the same time, the shoulder “wellness centre” continues to release in order to create an opposition between the diamond bone and the roof of the shoulder (the acromion) — letting the arms and hands hang on the side of the body.

Oppositions of Arms and Hands (to create the feeling of wave 4)

  • Continuing the release of the shoulder “wellness centre” allows activating the hands to swing out to the side and away from the solar plexus to the height of the solar plexus.
  • The second opposition is the counter rotation between the upper arm and the forearm (including the hand) to form the arms and hands for a characteristic purpose.
The area between the gravities of the upper arm and the forearm has the purpose to absorb the activity of the solar plexus.
The gravities of the upper arm and the forearm create a counter balance of the shift and rotation of the solar plexus.
The sway of the solar plexus creates the rotation of the forearm and the sway of the hand.
The shift of the solar plexus creates an extension between the root of the hand and the middle finger.

When we are re-living the flow between all these oppositions, we create a total Body Rhythm.
